Events & Appearances

One of my favorite parts of this journey is getting out from behind the desk and actually meeting people.

Writing and publishing can be very behind-the-scenes, so author events, book readings, cultural celebrations, community gatherings, interviews, school visits, and special appearances give me a chance to see the work come to life in a completely different way. I get to meet families, talk with readers, hear people’s stories, and sometimes watch a child connect with a book right in front of me. Those are the moments that make everything feel real.

Over the past year, I have also had the chance to be part of more community-centered events, especially within the Filipino community. From author storytelling and literacy events to cultural celebrations, award gatherings, interviews, and community programs, each experience has reminded me that books can create connection in places you may not always expect.

One event that meant a lot to me was holding a children’s storytelling event at Seafood City in Chula Vista. Being the first children’s author to do that there made it especially memorable, but what I loved most was seeing books become part of a space where families already gather. That experience reminded me that literacy does not always have to stay inside a classroom, library, or bookstore. Sometimes the best way to reach people is simply to meet them where they already are.

I have also been grateful to take part in Filipino community events, cultural gatherings, media interviews, award celebrations, book-related appearances, and opportunities connected to the work I care about. Some are large, some are small, and some are unexpected, but the ones I remember most are usually the ones where I leave feeling like I actually connected with someone.

At the same time, I have become much more thoughtful about how I spend my time. My life is full in many ways beyond being an author. There is writing, publishing, motherhood, travel, community work, creative projects, and everyday life happening all at once.

That might mean reading to children, supporting a cultural event, attending something connected to the Filipino community, speaking about emotional literacy, sharing my books, traveling somewhere new, or simply showing up for something that matters to someone I care about.

I also value time with my son, family, and close friends more than ever. The older I get, the more I realize that being busy is not the same as living fully. I still love being involved and saying yes to new experiences, but I also want to enjoy the people and moments that are right in front of me.

This page is where I share some of those experiences along the way: author events, readings, interviews, cultural celebrations, community appearances, award events, travel moments, and the little adventures that become part of the bigger story.

Some events are about books, some are about culture, some are about community, and some are simply about being present and enjoying life.

For me, that is what this page is really about: choosing experiences that feel meaningful, meeting good people, creating memories, and enjoying where this journey takes me next
