MUSIC AND CREATIVITY

Some ideas arrive as words on a page. Others feel more like a rhythm, a mood, or a line I want to hear again.

Music gives me another way to explore those ideas.

Writing children’s books is a central part of my creative life, but I also enjoy seeing what happens when I work in a different form. A song asks different things of me. I have to consider how words sound, where a pause belongs, and how repetition can make a thought stay with someone.

There is a connection to the things I love about writing for children. A read-aloud has its own rhythm. A phrase can be playful, comforting, or full of energy. The sound of the words helps shape the experience as much as their meaning.

What interests me is how an idea changes when it becomes something we can listen to. Encouragement might become a chorus. A feeling might find expression through a melody. A simple phrase might take on new meaning when it is repeated.

I want this space to leave room for exploration. Creativity does not always begin with a finished plan. Sometimes it begins with trying something, listening closely, and deciding what to change. Being willing to learn is part of the work.

That is something I hope children take from my stories, too: permission to have ideas, make an attempt, and keep discovering what they enjoy.

Here, I share my songs, creative experiments, and the ideas behind them. You will find another side of the person writing the books, one who enjoys following an idea beyond its first form.

Listen, explore, and see what stays with you. I hope something here brings a little energy, comfort, or inspiration to your day.
